![]() ![]() Well we know that there are 4 kingdoms in the game and Alfred is King of Wessex. What do you think King Alfred might be like as an antagonist? Maybe Alfred and the others (yes, seems Alfred is not the main villain - see the McDevitt-interview) will be the well rounded, multi-facetted and interesting villains I’m hoping for. This meant villains who were allround more interesting and reminded me of the thrill when I first started playing AC: There I was as Altaïr gathering intel and, even as I’m about to strike, I was still unsure whether or not to really assassinate the target.Īfter the cinematic trailer for AC Valhalla revealed Alfred the Great as a possible villain, and reading this Gamespot interview with Darby McDevitt (Narrative Director) where he confirms this, I started reading up about 9th century England and found this bit about King Alfred on Wikipedia interesting:Īlfred had a reputation as a learned and merciful man of a gracious and level-headed nature who encouraged education, proposing that primary education be conducted in Anglo-Saxon rather than Latin and improving the legal system and military structure and his people's quality of life.įrom what I’ve taken from the trailer, Alfred seems hellbent on destroying the Viking invasion, and yet, if you read more about him, he seems like a really intriguing historical figure.
